Principal Engineer

Laurie Florence is a UL Corporate Fellow and UL’s Principal Engineer for stationary/motive batteries and ESS with over 30 years of experience in product safety certification and standards development. She represents UL on a variety of UL standards technical panels (STPs) including 1973/1989, 1974, 2580/2271, 810/810A/810B, 2267 and 9540/9540A – as well as other industry standards and battery committees across ANSI, SAE, ISO, IEC, IEEE, IECEE, CSA, and NFPA including NFPA 2, NFPA 70, NFPA 850 and NFPA 855. Laurie is also the chair of IEC SC21A for secondary lithium and nickel batteries, convener for IEC SC21A WG 5 (industrial secondary lithium batteries), and the convenor of MT 8 (IEC 62933-5-1) of IEC TC 120 (energy storage systems). Laurie is also responsible for the UL certification categories pertaining to the standards under her area of expertise at UL.
